Hi, my name is John W. Begg, Jr., GISP (most people call me Jay) and I have a passion for making maps. In 2015 I created Begg Mapping Company to make my experience and expertise available to you. I specialize in the needs of my clients.

I am highly skilled in GIS, Geography, cartography, mapping, spatial data analysis and IT.

I am GISP certified by the GIS Certification Institute since 2008.

EXPERIENCE

GIS/IT Manager, Milliken Forestry Company, Inc.; Columbia, SC — 2007-2015

• Tasked with solving highly complex problems involving state-of-the-art computer hardware, software (including operating systems, relational database and application software and web services), and product design and delivery.

• Managed hardware and software for the company, including evaluation of needs, ordering, licensing, and advised on system and data architecture, management and security procedures.

• Production of high-quality professional GIS products (including maps, map books, databases, reports, tables, etc.)

• Developed and maintained integrated relational databases involving geospatial data.

• Digitization of stand lines, tract boundaries, roads and various other features. Well over 3 million acres of land hand drawn with high regards to spatial and attribute accuracy.

• Integration of GPS data into GIS databases.

• Interpretation and analysis of aerial imagery, elevation data (Lidar, topo, DEM, etc.), soil data and other data products.

• Summarized and conveyed relevant GIS information to foresters and clients.
